Also I think u guys need to tie their front end down. That might help u with not doing a wheely. That front end has so much travel in it, it might be shifting to much weight to the rear. Ur rear end needs to extend up not down. Just putting that out there.

Would an anti roll bar setup possibly work in the rear suspension of Kater Tot? If so that might make the rear suspension travel and tuning be more controllable, tunable and predictable. I'm not sure if that's ever been done in an IRS style suspension.

Just throwing this out there... have any of you ever worked on a De Dion rear suspension? Instead of UCA/LCA/toe, you basically attach the wheels to a bar that runs across the vehicle like a solid axle, but you're retaining the hubs and articulated axles you have now. Wheel motion is constrained like a solid axle, but it fits with the driveline you have now. No more toe issues, no more bushing deflection problems, for a U-shaped beam that goes behind the engine, two torque arms, and a Z link to keep it centered without favoring one side like a panhard arm would. You could apply torque to the chassis right under the driver's knees, that sucker would plant and lift straight up, great weight transfer without relying on the wheelie bar. Use a C-channel for the De Dion bar and it should be more than rigid enough to keep the wheels stable, but have some twist in it so it won't overload the outside tire in a turn and oversteer or jack itself over. Not critical for a drag racer, but a consideration. Think of a FWD Nissan style rear twist beam where the center bar doubles somewhat as an anti-roll bar.

18:00 if you're going to have the toe arm pivoting there, why not move that pivot point straight back to the cage upright and have a clamp system so it's adjustable for both static toe, and initial toe change on the suspension's compression? Also seems to me that if you're going to utilize bump steer as tuning, going toe-in on launch may point the thrust line towards the CG so it's a little more stable if one side or the other loses traction. Since the toe link isn't in the same vertical plane as the control arms, are you accounting for changes in toe by bushing compression under load? Regardless, best place to mount that toe arm's inboard pivot is wherever you find the convergence of the two control arm angles. If that's outside the chassis, you're just hosed. That whole system is going to be very hard to tune out properly, there are just too many points of motion. What if you converted the lower arm to two sets of heim joints** with ~6" separation at the knuckle, and added a drag link to the front to control caster? Toe would be stable and compression would add or remove caster depending on where the forward attachment point of the drag link is attached, AND you're transferring forces to that drag link in compression (make it stout) to basically push on the chassis directly and not try to hold everything with close-coupled attachment points that you have now. **edit: scratch heim joints, two urethane bushings to allow some flexure from the drag link's range, but not nearly so much available off-plane motion for other reasons.

Are those coilover springs progressive? Adding preload to a linear spring isn't going to do a whole lot except reduce your spring travel and possibly cause them to bottom out if they aren't already on launches. You need a couple different sets of springs to dial in on and only use damping adjustment for very fine tuning.

I’m sorry to be a Debbie downer, but personally I think this project should with better scrapped or tuned down and sold. This is a pointless death trap. I’ve been trying not to say something, but one of you guys is going to get hurt. The wheelbase is too short, it’s too light and too narrow for the power it has. Scrap this snd get back to the legend, Uncle Sam and maybe sell the s10 too because all it does is break. Sorry for being negative, if that’s even what it is. But cleetus was smart and got rid of the jet car before he killed himself, you should follow suit. You have a child and a wife. It’s too dangerous and no offense, but keeping at this is really being selfish by taking risks in that death trap.

You absolutely need solid spherical bushings in the rear for every single bushing point. No ifs, ands, or butts about it. All hands on deck to keep the toe setting where you want it.

Somehow I feel like if you could map this in CAD then build to that you’d save a ton of headache and know where everything should land. Even a basic stick-n-brick CAD would help since you could add joints to the sticks n bricks and measure the degree change at each axis. Most cars do have toe curves that go inward on squat (probably know that?). I’ve got a Fusion360 license and can give it a shot if you can get measurements. Just would be a side thing on my end. With the rear shocks, please please please corner weight them and dont just adjust by eye! My C5 had a 50lb difference across the axle and the car would squat at a diagonal over bumps, even after an alignment. The alignment directs the angle of the wheels but corner weight will prevent the wheels from going through their curves if not taken care of properly. Also, preload on spring can help, but if the valving isn’t set up for the spring rate it will likely continue to pogo from the resonance created by the spring defeating the valving and the valving catching up too late.

This is my opinion. Your best thing to do for that rear setup is to get rid of the original steering system off the back an replace it with a IRS style rear suspension.

you should scrap that stock stuff and find an irs setup you could use that doesn’t use tie rods. You have made your own mounting tabs for your control arms so wouldn’t take much to do the same for an irs setup.

If you take a high resolution photo from the rear with and without the rear tire from the exact same position then you should be able to superimpose the suspension geometry in photoshop and that should get you a very good estimate as to where the steering tie rod needs to be mounted to minimize the bump steer. Would of been super sweet to have made it with the seat in the middle for weight purposes when racing, def to late now but if you reck it again and end up making changes lol, I think it might be worth it on such a small vehicle! Maybe try a knuckle off the back of a Honda so it has a bar on the front side so it doesn’t toe out. Assuming the wheel bearing will fit in it so you have the splines for the axle

the geometry is wrong on the top arm that is attached on the chassis and the hub, the mounting on the chassis needs to be raised so it is pointing down slightly and it will stop the wheel toeing in when it is compressed, looking at it from the angle i can see 16:33 i recon the mounting on the chassis needs to be raised 2"

Bolt a bracket to the lower control arm and make the tie rod end bolt to that bracket so the toe never changes as the suspension goes up and down your already battling wheel hop the last thing need is the spindle trying to turn or shake as the toe changes so I'd suggest eliminating that but keep the adjustment so u can have it aligned and set at zero

And also I would fiddle fuck with the mounting point of the upper control arm so the camber doesn't change as it squats all that is doing is messing with the contact patch and causing more wheel hop and loss of traction
